Fit check
Who it suits — and who should skip it
Another Place suits active families, groups that want Swim Club and lake sports, and dog owners who can reserve an eligible room. It is strongest when the hotel programme—pool, Kids’ Zone, paddle sports, fireside evenings—is part of why you booked.
Skip it if you want an adults-only thermal spa hotel, need a guaranteed lake view in every category, or prefer a walkable market town outside the door. Also skip it if you dislike activity schedules; family swim times and supervised sessions run to published windows rather than all-day free-flow.

Stay details
Rooms and spa
Rooms, suites, cottages and unusual stays such as shepherd huts sit across the Georgian house and contemporary wing. Lake views are category-specific: Better rooms may publish partial views while Best rooms overlook Ullswater and the fells, so book the outlook you care about rather than assuming the shoreline address guarantees it.
Swim Club is the resident wellness offer: a 20-metre pool facing the fells, outdoor hot tub, sauna and cardio room. Family and adult swim periods are published separately. Spa treatments are for guests aged 18 and over and cost extra; the Fellside Sauna is a separate lakeshore booking rather than part of ordinary Swim Club access.
Dining includes Rampsbeck Restaurant, The Living Space and the Glasshouse, with The Brackenrigg Inn a short walk away. Dog-friendly spaces are specified rather than universal—match the room and restaurant together.
We have not yet published a room-by-room comparison for Another Place, The Lake. Room names, layouts and inclusions can change, so use the booking tip below and confirm the exact category with the hotel before paying.

Penrith is the nearest intercity rail station. Official hotel guidance gives a roughly 15–20 minute taxi journey and notes bus connections towards Watermillock—verify operators and last buses for your dates. Driving guests should expect a rural approach rather than town-centre parking stress.
On the estate, walkability is excellent for shore, grounds and hotel restaurants. Beyond the grounds, most days need a car, taxi or planned bus, especially after dark.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions about Another Place, The Lake
Is there a spa at Another Place, The Lake?
Swim Club is the hotel’s spa-style offer for residents: indoor pool, sauna, outdoor hot tub and cardio room. Treatments and the Fellside Sauna are separately bookable. It is not an adults-only thermal suite hotel in the Brimstone or Holte Spa sense.
Is Another Place dog-friendly?
Selected rooms, suites, cottages and unusual stays accept up to two well-behaved, house-trained dogs. The Living Space, Glasshouse and Brackenrigg Inn are among the dog-friendly dining options; reserve the exact room and table plan.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes. Family rooms, an Ofsted-registered Kids’ Zone, dedicated family swim times and lake activities make it one of the stronger family hotels on Ullswater. Confirm ages, session bookings and room layout for your party.
Do I need a car?
Most guests will want a car or pre-booked taxis. Penrith is the rail gateway, and the rural Watermillock setting has limited spontaneous off-site dining without transport.
Do all rooms have lake views?
No. Standard rooms are not guaranteed a lake view. Compare Better and Best categories and confirm the outlook in writing if the view is why you are booking.
