About BestUKHotels

Independent UK Hotel Guidance

BestUKHotels helps travellers find hotels in the United Kingdom that fit the way they actually plan to travel.

Whether you are arranging a city break in London, a family holiday in Cornwall, a countryside escape in the Lake District, a business trip to Manchester or a first visit to Scotland, our aim is to make the hotel decision clearer and more useful.

Before you book

The questions that matter

We research and curate hotels across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, focusing on the questions that matter before booking.

  1. Which area is most convenient?
  2. What type of traveller is the hotel suitable for?
  3. Is it a practical choice for families, couples or solo travellers?
  4. How easy is it to reach by public transport?
  5. What are the important advantages and limitations?
  6. Is the hotel suitable for the purpose of the trip?

Our goal is not to publish the longest list of hotels. It is to help you choose a stay that is genuinely suitable for your destination, travel style and priorities.

The site

What BestUKHotels does

BestUKHotels is an independent hotel research and editorial website. Our content is organised around the four countries of the United Kingdom and the destinations within them. Destination guides currently go deepest in London, Edinburgh, the Lake District, Cardiff and Belfast. Other places appear when those pages are useful, not as empty shells.

This is a national decision and navigation site, not a UK hotel directory. We do not generate pages from tags, star ratings or amenity filters.

Our pages may help you compare

  • Hotels in major UK cities
  • Countryside and coastal accommodation
  • Family-friendly stays
  • Romantic and special-occasion hotels
  • Hotels for first-time visitors
  • Accommodation for car-free travel
  • Airport, railway-station and event stays
  • Hotels suited to different budgets and travel priorities

Every recommendation is intended to answer a specific travel decision. A hotel may be included because it is well located, particularly suitable for families, convenient for a railway station, appropriate for a special occasion or useful for a particular type of itinerary. Inclusion does not necessarily mean that it is the right choice for every traveller.

Method

How we research hotels

Our research process combines structured research, source checking and editorial judgement. See also how we review hotels and our editorial policy.

  1. 01

    Structured research

We consult hotel websites, official tourism sources, transport information, reputable booking platforms, established travel publications and other relevant sources.

  2. 02

    AI assistance

AI may help us organise information, identify questions travellers commonly ask, compare publicly available details and create an initial research structure.

  3. 03

    Human review

Before an article is published, we check important claims against available sources, remove unsupported statements and judge whether the recommendation is genuinely useful.

We look for information such as location, transport access, room types, facilities, suitability for different travellers, booking considerations and important limitations.

Where information may change—such as facilities, transport arrangements, opening hours, room details or hotel policies—we aim to identify the relevant source and encourage readers to confirm important details directly with the hotel before booking.

Coverage

Honest coverage matters

We do not claim to have personally stayed at every hotel we mention.

When a recommendation is based on editorial research rather than a personal stay, we aim to make that clear. We do not invent first-hand experiences, guest reviews, inspection visits, awards or conversations with hotel staff. We also do not describe a hotel as “personally tested” unless that claim can be supported.

Coverage status is stated honestly. Until a stay, visit or contributor verification is recorded, recommendations are labelled editorially researched.

Our hotel pages are designed to explain both strengths and trade-offs. These details matter because the best hotel depends on the traveller.

  • Location versus quiet

A hotel can be attractive for its location but less suitable for travellers who need quiet surroundings.

  • Facilities versus budget

A luxury property may offer excellent facilities but not suit a limited budget.

  • Convenience versus space

A central hotel may be convenient while having smaller rooms or higher prices.

Shortlists

How hotels are selected

Hotels may be considered for inclusion when they appear relevant to a destination, itinerary or traveller need. We consider factors such as:

  • Location and access to attractions
  • Public transport and railway connections
  • Suitability for the intended trip
  • Room and accommodation options
  • Facilities and practical convenience
  • Family, accessibility or mobility considerations where reliable information is available
  • Distinctive strengths
  • Potential drawbacks and booking limitations
  • The quality and consistency of available information

Affiliate eligibility or commission does not determine whether a hotel is included. We aim to keep editorial decisions separate from commercial relationships.

A hotel appearing on BestUKHotels is not a guarantee of availability, price, quality or personal suitability. Hotel conditions, services and prices can change, so readers should check the latest information before making a booking.

Money

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on BestUKHotels may be affiliate links. If you click one of these links and make a qualifying booking, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.

Affiliate relationships help support the operation and continued development of the website. They do not determine which destinations or hotels we cover, and hotels are not ranked solely because they provide a commission.

Our editorial recommendations and booking links are kept separate. We aim to explain why a hotel may suit a particular traveller before providing an option to check availability or prices. The full note is on the affiliate disclosure page.

Standards

Our editorial responsibility

We believe useful hotel guidance should be:

  • Clear about what is known and what is uncertain
  • Transparent about whether information is researched or personally experienced
  • Specific about who a hotel suits
  • Honest about drawbacks and trade-offs
  • Reviewed before publication
  • Updated when important information changes
  • Open to correction

If you notice an error, outdated information or a misleading statement, please contact us at hello@bestukhotels.com. We review credible corrections and update pages when appropriate. See also how we handle corrections.

Where this is going

Our vision

Our vision is to make choosing a hotel in the United Kingdom simpler, more transparent and more personal.

The right hotel is not always the most expensive, the most famous or the one with the highest review score. It is the one that fits the trip.

BestUKHotels exists to help travellers make that decision with greater confidence—wherever they are going in the UK and whatever kind of stay they are planning.
