UK Hotel Breakfast Price Index 2026: What 20 Hotels Charge
A room-only price leaves one everyday expense unresolved. We checked published adult breakfast tariffs at selected UK hotels, separating standard prices from advance discounts and continental-only options.
20 priced hotels8 UK cities1 adult, 1 breakfast
How much does hotel breakfast cost in the UK? Across our 20 selected hotels in eight UK cities, the published standard adult breakfast price ranged from £15.95 to £32.00, with a £19.98 median. These are prices for one adult eating one breakfast, checked on 19 October 2026, before discretionary service charges. They describe this sample, rather than the UK hotel market as a whole.
The price can depend on when you decide to eat. Ten included hotels published a lower price for adding breakfast in advance, at check-in or before the previous evening’s deadline. Continental-only options and breakfast bundled into the room rate create further differences.
The UK Hotel Breakfast Price Index 2026 records those distinctions so travellers can compare the actual breakfast supplement behind a room-only booking. It is the first snapshot of a selected group of published tariffs; it does not measure inflation or assess the food.

Key findings
- £19.98 was the sample median of 20 standard adult breakfast prices. The two middle prices were £19.95 and £20; the midpoint is rounded to the nearest penny.
- 10 of the 20 prices were £20 or more. At £20 each, breakfast for two adults on both mornings of a weekend adds £80 to a room-only stay, before any discretionary service.
- Ten hotels published comparable advance discounts. The largest recorded saving was £7 per adult per breakfast at The Marylebone: £25 in advance against £32 otherwise.
- The lowest standard tariff was £15.95 at Clayton Hotel Cardiff. The two highest were £32 at The Marylebone and The Bloomsbury, both in London and both part of The Doyle Collection.
- City medians reflect the hotels selected. Glasgow’s three prices ranged from £17 to £29; London’s two were both £32. This cannot establish a cheapest or most expensive city.
- Four further hotels were excluded from the standard-price figures because we found only an advance tariff, an approximate price or no numeric tariff on the reviewed page.
Published hotel breakfast prices by city
The table groups the same 20 priced hotels by city. Samples range from two to four properties, and the breakfast formats and hotel mix differ. A median from two London hotels in the same group is particularly narrow evidence.

What the city differences actually tell us
In Cardiff, the two published standard prices were £15.95 for Clayton’s served Vitality breakfast and £18 for Future Inn’s full Welsh buffet. Both hotels also publish lower advance prices. Even within this small pair, the service format differs.
In Edinburgh, The Bonham lists £28 for cooked breakfast and Ten Hill Place’s current dining page lists £25. Radisson Blu Edinburgh’s published £16 price requires purchase at check-in, so it sits in the excluded records rather than lowering the standard-price median.
In Glasgow, Radisson RED’s £17 and Radisson Blu’s £17.95 sit alongside One Devonshire Gardens’ £29 cooked breakfast with its continental selection. A hotel group’s generic menu is not always the right evidence: One Devonshire Gardens links its own property-specific 2026 menu.
In Manchester, the two tariffs are £23 at The Midland and £29 for The Edwardian’s buffet. The latter menu also adds a discretionary service charge, which is outside the index price. In Liverpool, both selected hotels belong to Radisson Hotel Group and publish £17.95. Their identical prices do not establish the city’s typical hotel breakfast cost.
In York, the range is £17.95 at Radisson Hotel York, £24 at Hotel du Vin and £30 at Middlethorpe Hall. Middlethorpe also promotes breakfast-inclusive room rates; its £30 figure is the separately published tariff for room-only or non-resident guests.
Belfast has the largest city sample here, with four prices between £17 and £20. All four hotels publish a separate advance or check-in price. London has just two entries, both from The Doyle Collection; its £32 median should be read in that context.
Every hotel in the breakfast price sample
The standard column uses the price for a guest who has not taken the separately advertised advance discount. When a page gives a fixed resident breakfast tariff without a booking-time distinction, we use that published tariff and record the product description.

These are advertised breakfast tariffs, not prices paid in a mystery-shopping exercise. Buffet, served and cooked-to-order breakfasts are grouped as separately purchasable hotel breakfast services, but they are not identical meals. The Midland’s page, for example, gives the restaurant price without itemising its inclusions.
How much can booking breakfast in advance save?
At the 10 included hotels publishing both comparable prices, adding breakfast earlier reduced the adult price by £2 to £7. The booking deadline matters: “advance” can mean adding it to the room reservation, purchasing at check-in or deciding the previous evening.
| Hotel and city | Standard adult price | Advance adult price | Booking condition | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clayton Hotel Belfast Belfast | £20.00 | £15.00 | Book in advance at check-in | Official source for Clayton Hotel Belfast |
| Hilton Belfast Belfast | £19.95 | £15.75 | Purchase at check-in | Official source for Hilton Belfast |

| The Marylebone London | £32.00 | £25.00 | Add to the reservation in advance | Official source for The Marylebone |
| The Midland Manchester | £23.00 | £20.00 | Purchase in advance | Official source for The Midland |
| Radisson Hotel York York | £17.95 | £14.95 | Purchase at check-in | Official source for Radisson Hotel York |
At The Marylebone, two adults eating on two mornings would pay £100 at the published £25 advance tariff, against £128 at £32: a £28 difference before any discretionary service. That is a calculation from the published prices, rather than a tested booking quote.
At Maldron Hotel Belfast City, the £15 advance price remains available until 23:00 the night before, against £17 on the day. A traveller may therefore be able to decide after arriving; prepaying breakfast when initially reserving the room is not the only model.
The study does not establish that advance breakfast is always refundable or changeable. Check that condition separately, particularly if plans or departure times are uncertain.
Is a bed-and-breakfast room rate better value?
Compare the total price for the same room, dates, occupancy and cancellation terms. A breakfast-inclusive booking can be good value even when its room price is higher, but its breakfast allocation must cover everyone who intends to eat.
Using Clayton Hotel Belfast’s published adult tariffs, the separate breakfast cost is:
| Party and breakfasts | At the £20 standard price | At the £15 check-in price |
|---|---|---|
| One adult, one morning | £20 | £15 |
| Two adults, one morning | £40 | £30 |
| Two adults, two mornings | £80 | £60 |
These are calculations from the hotel’s published breakfast tariffs, before any discretionary service. For two adults eating one morning, a like-for-like breakfast-inclusive room costing less than £30 extra would beat buying the £15 check-in breakfasts separately. An uplift between £30 and £40 beats the standard breakfast price, but not that check-in alternative. No room rate is assumed here.
Breakfast included in a room rate is not coded as a £0 breakfast in this index. We cannot isolate its value from the accommodation price without a controlled comparison of equivalent bookings. Nor should a hotel’s non-resident café menu automatically be substituted for its resident breakfast package.
Continental breakfast, children and service charges
Continental and cooked prices can refer to different products
The Bonham publishes £22 for continental breakfast and £28 for cooked breakfast. At Hotel du Vin York, the currently linked menu gives £19.50 for the Country Table and £24 for hot breakfast with the Country Table.
The smaller number is not necessarily a discount on the same meal. We retain continental-only tariffs separately and exclude them from the headline median. We also avoid assuming that every cooked option includes the continental selection: the inclusions need checking at the individual hotel.
Children’s rules can change the family total
This is an adult-price index, not a family-breakfast index. Applying one standard child price across the dataset would be misleading.
Radisson RED Glasgow lists breakfast as complimentary for children under 13; Radisson RED Liverpool uses under 12. Meanwhile, Premier Inn’s breakfast FAQ allows up to two children under 16 per adult buying a full breakfast to eat free. Those age and accompanying-adult conditions matter when comparing a family’s bill.
Premier Inn advertises its full breakfast from £10.99, while explicitly listing higher prices at some restaurants. That is useful chain-level context, outside our 20-hotel sample; it is not a verified uniform tariff that can be assigned to a particular hotel.
For the room side of the same calculation, see our UK Family Hotel Room Study and guides to London family hotels and Edinburgh family hotels.
A menu price may have a service charge beside it
The Edwardian Manchester’s linked menu prices the buffet at £29, includes VAT and states that a discretionary 12.5% service charge will be added. If retained, that would make one adult breakfast £32.63, rounded to the nearest penny. Hotel du Vin York’s linked menu also states a discretionary 12.5% service charge.
Our comparison excludes discretionary service, keeping the advertised breakfast tariff separate. Where the source makes no service-charge statement, the data says so; that does not establish that no charge will apply. Check the current menu and booking conditions before treating any figure as the final bill.
Which prices did we leave out?
Four reviewed hotels did not qualify for the standard-price comparison. We kept them in the downloadable dataset, with a reason and the page checked.
| Hotel and city | Reason excluded | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Hilton Cardiff Cardiff | Dining page confirms a fee applies but does not give a numeric breakfast tariff. | Official source for Hilton Cardiff |
| Radisson Blu Hotel, Edinburgh City Centre Edinburgh | Only a check-in adult price could be verified; no standard non-advance tariff assigned. | Official source for Radisson Blu Hotel, Edinburgh City Centre |
| Leonardo Hotel London Croydon London | FAQ describes the adult supplement as around GBP 16; approximate prices are excluded rather than treated as fixed. | Official source for Leonardo Hotel London Croydon |
| The Kensington London | FAQ describes breakfast and serving times but no fixed adult breakfast tariff was found on the reviewed page. | Official source for The Kensington |
These four records are not a measure of industry-wide price transparency. We did not review every page, booking flow or direct enquiry channel at each property. The decision is simply that the reviewed source did not support a fixed standard price under this study’s rules.
Methodology
BestUKHotels checked first-party hotel and hotel-group websites and menus on 19 October 2026. We selected hotels in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Manchester and York, covering all four UK nations.
Sample and inclusion rule
This is an editorial convenience sample, assembled from hotels with accessible published breakfast information. Twenty hotels supplied a fixed standard adult cooked, buffet or resident breakfast tariff. Four other reviewed hotels did not meet that rule. The sample was not drawn randomly from a hotel register and does not cover every hotel price band.
There is substantial group concentration: six of the 20 hotels are in Radisson Hotel Group, and both London entries belong to The Doyle Collection. Cities contribute different numbers of hotels. Those choices limit geographic comparisons and any extrapolation to the UK market.
For menus hosted separately, we followed the breakfast link from the official property page and kept both URLs in the CSV. We used the current linked menu rather than assigning a generic group tariff to every property. Ten Hill Place illustrates why opening the source matters: the current dining page showed £25, while a search result still displayed £17.50. The dataset uses £25.
Price rules
- The unit is one adult, one breakfast, in pounds sterling.
- Each included hotel contributes one standard advertised tariff. Where available, we use the non-advance price for a guest whose breakfast is not included in the room booking.
- A distinct advance price is retained separately with its booking condition. Only included hotels with both comparable prices enter the advance-discount comparison.
- Continental-only food, individual café dishes, grab-and-go bags, room-service delivery charges, Champagne and separately priced extras do not enter the standard-price median.
- Approximate amounts and “from” prices do not qualify as fixed standard tariffs. No amount is estimated where the reviewed source gives none.
- We exclude discretionary service charges. The data retains explicit service-charge statements and marks silence as unspecified. We use prices as advertised without inventing a tax or charge adjustment.
- Breakfast bundled into accommodation is not valued at zero. A separately published breakfast tariff can still qualify, as at Middlethorpe Hall.
Calculations and limits
The overall median pools the 20 hotel tariffs, giving each hotel equal weight. It is not an average of the eight city medians and is not weighted by room numbers, occupancy or breakfast sales. Each city median uses only that city’s included records.
For an even number of prices, the median is the mean of the two central values. We calculate in pence, retain half-penny midpoints where needed and round the final displayed median to the nearest penny. Scenario totals use the underlying hotel tariffs, rather than multiplying an already rounded sample median.
The name “index” describes this first published price comparison. There is no base-year value of 100, historical series, inflation rate or claim of price growth. Future editions can compare the same hotels and products only after checking changes in inclusions, ownership and published terms.
We did not stay at the hotels, buy breakfasts, contact hotels for unpublished quotes or assess food quality for this study. Public pages can be out of date, and terms may change after verification. Confirm the current breakfast product, price, deadline and charges with the hotel before booking.

Hotel breakfast price questions
What is the average price of a UK hotel breakfast?
This study does not estimate a UK-wide average. Its median standard adult price is £19.98 across 20 selected hotels, with prices from £15.95 to £32. The sample is small, selected for published information and contains several hotels from the same groups.
Is it cheaper to add hotel breakfast before arrival?
Ten included hotels publish a lower advance or check-in tariff, with savings of £2–£7 per adult per breakfast. Some require it to be added to the reservation, while others allow purchase at check-in or the night before. This does not establish a universal discount or cancellation rule.
Does a breakfast-inclusive room cover two people?
Check the occupancy and meal allowance on the actual rate. A room described as breakfast-inclusive should not be assumed to cover guests who are not included in that booking. Confirm children’s ages, any supplements and the breakfast product before comparing the total with a room-only alternative.
Are these the cheapest or best hotel breakfasts in the UK?
No. These are published prices from selected hotels, not a search for the lowest available breakfast or a review of quality. Budget chains, independent cafés and other hotels may charge less. A price alone cannot establish value without knowing what is included and whether you want it.

- Data checked
- 19 October 2026
- Sample
- 20 priced hotels · 8 UK cities · 1 adult, 1 breakfast
- Method
- Editorial convenience sample of 20 hotels with a fixed published standard adult cooked, buffet or resident breakfast tariff in eight UK cities, checked against first-party pages and currently linked hotel menus on 19 October 2026. Four further hotels were excluded because the reviewed page gave only an advance price, an approximate amount or no numeric tariff. Medians use one standard price per included hotel; advance and continental-only prices are kept separately. Discretionary service charges are excluded. This is a cross-sectional price comparison, not a representative UK estimate or an inflation measure.
