Strengths and trade-offs
Strengths
- Dedicated Hazel Family Room category beside Windermere
- Main indoor swimming pool access is published with family-room stays
- On-site watersports centre with a range of bookable activities
- Winander Club and spa-break routes for guests wanting a more exclusive thermal stay
Trade-offs
- The family-room page does not state one clear maximum occupancy or child-bed layout
- The thermal spa is separate from the main pool, excludes children and is not included with most ordinary room bookings
- The A591 resort setting is not a walkable town centre
- Watersports depend on age, ability, season and weather rather than running as unlimited hotel inclusions
Fit check
Who it suits — and who should skip it
Low Wood Bay suits active families who want a main indoor pool and bookable watersports, couples comparing spa-break packages, and groups that like a resort campus on Windermere.
Skip it if you need a clearly published five-person room layout before arrival, expect inclusive thermal-spa access with every bed-and-breakfast rate, or want to walk out to Ambleside restaurants without transport. Also skip it if anyone needs the adults-only spa to be the whole family’s shared facility.

Stay details
Rooms and spa
Resort Rooms cover mainstream stays such as the Hazel Family Room and Hazel Lake View with Balcony, while Winander Club rooms and suites add a more exclusive layer with upgraded features. Family occupancy for Hazel rooms must be confirmed in writing because the official page does not publish one universal maximum.
The main indoor pool is the family leisure facility and is published with relevant room stays. The thermal spa—indoor-outdoor pools, hot tubs, sauna and steam—is separate, for guests aged 16 and over, and is included in spa-break packages as a timed Thermal Journey rather than with most ordinary rates. Treatments and watersports are additional bookings.
Check-in is published from 3pm, with check-out by 11am, or noon for Winander Club on the hotel’s FAQ. Confirm those times on your confirmation.
These are the room categories for which our current source set contains useful, comparable detail. They are not presented as a complete live inventory.

On the ground
Location and access
Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa is at Ambleside Road, Windermere, LA23 1LP. See our the Lake District hotel guide for the wider area context and other places to stay.
Low Wood Bay sits on Ambleside Road between Windermere and Ambleside, with Windermere shoreline grounds and an on-site marina. It is a resort base on the A591 rather than a bedroom above either town centre, so evenings in Ambleside or Windermere usually need a short drive, taxi or bus.
Windermere station is the practical rail gateway, followed by a taxi or bus along the lake road. The hotel publishes free onsite private parking for guests booking direct; third-party booking channels may treat parking differently, so confirm your channel’s rules.
Walkability is strong for hotel restaurants, spa, lawns and watersports. It is weaker for independent shops and pubs without leaving the resort.
The resort lies on the A591 between Windermere and Ambleside rather than in either town centre. Plan the final bus, taxi or car leg and recheck evening services.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions about Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa
Is there a spa at Low Wood Bay?
Yes. Guests have a main indoor leisure pool, while the separate thermal spa offers an indoor-outdoor circuit for ages 16 and over. Thermal access is included with spa-break packages as a timed journey and is otherwise an add-on for most room rates.
Is Low Wood Bay dog-friendly?
Selected categories accept up to two well-behaved dogs, but dogs are excluded from the Winander Club, both restaurants and spa facilities and must not be left unattended. Confirm the room and meal plan.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes when you confirm the Hazel Family Room layout, every bed and the main-pool times. Children are excluded from the thermal spa, so do not book a spa package as a family shared facility without checking ages.
Do I need a car?
A car or taxi makes Ambleside and Windermere evenings easier. Windermere station works as a rail gateway, followed by a short lake-road transfer. Buses also run the A591 corridor when timetables suit.
Is parking free?
The hotel publishes free onsite private parking for guests, and recommends booking direct. Confirm whether your booking channel changes parking terms before arrival.
